A Hybrid Stacker for a New Treating Line

At the Fairfield, Texas facility of Hoover Treated Wood Products—poised to open in late 2023 as its first expansion into Texas—Hoover installed a Gillingham-Best Hybrid Plywood + Lumber Stacker. It runs the same patented Variable Pan Geometry™ technology and high-efficiency Fastack™ design as GBI's standard lumber stackers.

The hybrid unit handles both plywood sheets and dimensional lumber on one automated line, placing stickers across varied product profiles:

• Rapid stacking cycles across mixed product
• Precise sticker positioning, even with bowed or uneven material
• Smooth transitions from panel to board applications
• Screen-based operator control with full package diagnostics

The VPG™ sticker-placing mechanism sets exact alignment under each course — the basis for consistent drying, structural integrity, and clean downstream handling. Rugged construction, the low moving mass of the Fastack™ frame, and below-chain sticker delivery keep reliability high and maintenance low. Console-adjustable width and thickness parameters let operators move between plywood panels and mixed lumber dimensions without reconfiguration.

Hoover's Fairfield mill supplies fire-retardant-treated lumber and plywood — including its Pyro-Guard® and ExteriorFireX® lines — for commercial and multi-family construction. Handling both product types under one automated system lets the plant package for treatment and delivery on tight schedules, meeting the building-code quality expectations that treated wood carries.
